Unlocked Limited Signed Hardcover: Officially Out!

Just a quick note to make you aware that, as the headline says, the Subterranean Press signed, limited hardcover edition of “Unlocked” is now officially out in the world and available for order. This edition features the fantastic artwork above, by Molly Crabapple, my signature, and the general fantastic quality that Subterranean Press gives all of its books. I’m super pleased with the version, but then, when it comes to SubPress, I usually am.

This hardcover is limited to just 1,500 copies, and as I understand it most of those copies were taken in the preorder phase, so this limited edition is now even more limited, as it were. If you want a copy, you should get a move on. You can buy it directly from Subterranean, get it at your favorite online retailer, or check with your local bookstore about special ordering it.

Long Island High Schooler Dies After Football Collision

A Long Island high school junior died late Wednesday after colliding with an opponent in a varsity football game.

Tom Cutinella, a junior at Shoreham-Wading River High School who plays guard/linebacker on the school’s football team, was pronounced dead after sustaining a head injury in the third quarter of the afternoon game, Newsday reports.

Cutinella was hospitalized after the hit and placed in the intensive-care unit after undergoing surgery. His death came as a shock to the community and to the 60 friends, relatives and teammates waiting in the hospital, Newsday reports.

“We’re a small community and we’re all devastated,” Jack Costas, a member of the Shoreham-Wading River school board told Newsday. “It’s always tragic when someone so young and so full of life has their life ended. It’s going to be a very, very difficult road ahead from this.”

The risks of injury and death in football have come…

Experimenting with Nightime Photography in Australia: A giraffe’s head in the wall

Experimenting with Nightime Photography in Australia

This past summer I had the grand opportunity to go to Australia. It was winter there and the conference I attended was a bit somber due to the downed Malaysian flight. Thus, while Australia is a beautiful country with stunning landscapes there were times when my view was a bit cloudy or overcast.   I hardly ever take photographs at night as I’m a bit lazy to set up the whole photography contraption although I have a very nice set of cameras.  This time around, however, I did play around a bit with nighttime photography.

here’s a giraffe’s head in the wall and why not?

The vibrancy of Melbourne at night really shone through.  is this a wall, the ground. where are we?

Thanks to Melbourne for being for first real experiment in night time photography.
